Mavis E. Steffenhagen, 87, of Oconto Falls passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the Cottages of Oconto Falls. She was born to the late Raymond and Elda (Schultz) Sievert April 20, 1929 in Watertown, WI. Mavis attended Watertown High School. On June 21, 1952 she married Warren Steffenhagen at St. Luke Lutheran Church of Watertown, WI. Following Warren’s ordination on July 27, 1952 Mavis was his help mate as a Pastor’s wife, living in Moline, IL, Friesland, WI, Withrow, WA, Spokane, WA, Gary, SD, Oconto Falls, WI and Lena, WI. During the years of 1969 – 1992 she served various roles in the Oconto Falls School District retiring as Secretary of Jefferson Elementary School in Oconto Falls. During their retirement years Mavis enjoyed sharing time with Warren as he substituted at various churches in the area.
Surviving are her husband of nearly 64 years, Pastor Warren Steffenhagen, 4 children, Martin, Phoenix, AZ; Deborah (Fran) Wranosky, Oconto Falls; Cynthia (Bob) Bristol, Oconto Falls; Katherine (Jim) Spencer, Bay Port, MN; grandchildren, great grandchildren and 1 sister, Marlene (Al) Kienetz, New Ulm, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Lyle Sievert.
The family will greet relatives and friends Monday, May 30th at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 301 S. Chestnut Ave., Oconto Falls, from 4 – 8 P.M. and Tuesday, May 31st from 9 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 A.M. with Pastor Matthew Arnold officiating. Mavis will be placed to rest at St. Mark Cemetery, Spruce.
