Julia Hardgrave Passes Away

Plumas county lost another of its fast diminishing list of pioneers early yesterday morning with the death, at the age of 78, of Mrs. Juliet Hardgrave more frequently called Mrs. "Julia" Hardgrave at the home of her son, John Hardgrave in Taylorville.

Born in Hutton Township Coles County Illinois in 1856, she came to California in 1864 with her parents, James Wesley and Eliza "Dicey" nee Bell Cottingham, who settled in Indian Valley near Taylorsville.

In 1880, she married William Hardgrave of Taylorsville. Four children were born to this union, three of whom survive the mother. They are John Hardgrave of Taylorsville, Dr. Lloyd Hardgrave of San Francisco, and Philip Hardgrave of Quincy. The other child, a daughter, died in infancy.

Mrs. Hardgrave was a home loving woman who devoted her life to her family. Internment will take place in the Taylorsville cemetery tomorrow afternoon.
