Dottie was the daughter of Michael Henry and Mae Flynn Carey. She was the youngest of four children. She attended Grammar and High School at St. Mary's in Yonkers, New York and relocated back to Waco in 1946. She later moved to Fort Worth working as a bookkeeper, She met Elmer Bryant and they were married, May 27, 1960. He preceded her in death on, December 11, 1995. They made their home in Graham where Dottie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and very active in community service. She gave freely of her time as she volunteered for Graham Area Church Women, American Cancer Society, Senior Citizen Center, Meals on Wheels, and Altar Society of St. Mary's Church. Her favorite, which she first volunteered in 1965, was for the Graham Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed "pushing the cart", working the gift shop, and selling thousands of raffle tickets. She remained active in the Auxiliary until a very short time ago, giving over 50 years of service.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Carey and sisters Helen Craven and Kathryn Mecurio.
