Mrs. Sarah Helen Rice Dunn, age 101, of Lincolnton Highway, Elberton, wife of 68 years to the late Asberry Dunn, Sr., passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020, at Nancy Hart Nursing Center.
Mrs. Dunn was born in Elberton on March 23, 1919, daughter of the late Richard Lester Rice and Sadie Gary Rice. She was a graduate of Nancy Hart High School where she lettered in basketball. Miss Sarah was a homemaker who was dedicated to caring for her family, and worked briefly at Elberton Manufacturing Company. She was a member of Welcome Wesleyan Church and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and canning.
Survivors include her children: Asberry Dunn, Jr. and his wife Patricia, R.L. Dunn and his wife Janice, and Janelle Dunn Hilley and her husband Charles, all of Elberton; sister, Martha Fleming of Greenwood, SC; grandchildren: David and Kerry Dunn, Sharon and Ronnie Payton, Stephanie Pullen, Len Dunn, Ginger and Barry Marler, and Nathan and Renee Hilley; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her siblings: Lester Elmore Rice, Richard Rice, Martin Rice, John Rice, Jessie Frank Rice, William Norman Rice, Georgia Mae Price, and Flora Lee Dixon.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, November 13, at 2 o’clock at Forest Hills Memorial Park. Social distancing will be observed and friends are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
Mrs. Dunn will lie instate at Berry Funeral Home on Thursday, November 12, from 9:00a.m.-4:00p.m. for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the guestbook. Due to the coronavirus, there will be no formal visitation.
Contributions may be made in her memory to the church of one’s choice.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest appreciation to the staff at Nancy Hart Nursing Center and Magnolia Estates.
