Randolph - Funeral services for Mr. Douglas Stephens Anderson, age 78 who died Sunday, March 23, 1997, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Chapel, Bonham. Interment will follow in the family plot in the historical Randolph-Lindsey Cemetery, Randolph, which was named in honor of Mr. Anderson's family ancestors.

Mr. Anderson was born Sept. 23, 1918, the son of Edward Albert and Sarah Alice Jones Anderson, the sixth of nine children. He was born in Randolph, graduated from Randolph High school, then attended East Texas State University (Now Texas A&M, Commerce) and received a Bachelor of Science Degree. His first teaching job was in Sonora, Texas. He then moved to Denton, where he taught elementary school while pursuing a master's degree in School Administration from North Texas State Teacher's College (now North Texas). After he received his master's degree, he became principal of Jeff Davis Elementary School in Denton where he served many happy years. Toward the end of his long teaching career, he moved to Richardson where he taught Sixth Grade at Dover Elementary School until he retired. He then returned to his family homeplace in Randolph, where he was happy to farm, raise cattle and be near his family.

Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Edward Marshall Anderson and Calvin Melton Anderson; and sisters, Effie Beatrice Hembree, Evelyn Pauline Reynolds and Vera Nell Anderson.

He is survived by brother, Aubrey Mitchell Anderson; and sisters, Alice Marguritte Kincade and Julia Lucille Mullenix; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, friends and students.

Mr. Anderson's memberships included Texas State Teacher's Association, Richardson Retired Teacher's Association and the First Baptist Church, Randolph. He was a Director of the Richardson-Lindsey Cemetery Association.

Nephews will be pallbearers, Douglas Anderson, Mike Anderson, Larry Reynolds, Garry Anderson, Jackie Mullenix, James Kincade, Shawn Anderson, Duaine Kincade and Lynn Kincade.

Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Martin, Mike Spence, Steven Spence, Tony Romero, Jeffery Mullenix, Anthony Anderson, Aaron Anderson, Clint Kincade and Todd Martin.
