Rebecca Crawford, age 74,or Becky as she was known,was born on July 8, 1941, and spent her early childhood on a farm in Shepherdsville. She moved along with her mother, Gladys Tyler and her little brother, Edward Tyler to Bardstown about 1954. She was a graduate of Bardstown High School and Georgetown College. Becky moved to Dayton, Ohio where she taught biology and home economics. She met and married James Jay Crawford, a pilot in the USAF in 1968. They moved to Valdosta, Georgia where he was stationed until his deployment to Thailand during the Vietnam War. While he was deployed she moved back to Bardstown. After his death in 1972 she remained in Bardstown where she had her daughter Ellen. Becky attended Elizabethtown Community College where she graduated with a degree in nursing. She worked as a nurse at Flaget Memorial Hospital and also worked as the school nurse at Bardstown City Schools for 25 years. In addition to being an active member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Bardstown, she became active in the Hearing Loss Association. Becky joined her husband in heaven on May 24, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Captain James J. Crawford and her parents Edward Crutchfield and Gladys Ice Tyler Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Crawford of Nimy, Belgium, one brother, Edward C. (Mary) Tyler of St. Augustine, Fl., and 2 nephews John (Amanda) Tyler of DeLand, Fl. and Matthew Tyler of St. Augustine, Florida.
Funeral services for Rebecca Crawford will be Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 2:00pm at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Bardstown with interment in Hebron Cemetery in Shepherdsville. Brother John Sanderson will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00-8:00pm at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with additional visitation Tuesday from 11:00am until time of service at her church. The family request that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of contributions to the 1st Presbyterian Church of Bardstown or KY. Home Chapter of HLLA, PO Box 88, Bardstown, KY., 40004.
