Martha D. Jackson, 2nd daughter of Thomas and Eliza Klugh Jackson, was born in the bounds of Abbeville, South Carolina on July 2nd 1827. Her father, a native of Nottinghamshire, England, was a well respected carriage maker. Her parents were charter members of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Martha married Matthew McDonnald (McDonald)¹ in 1845 and had one known child: William Thomas (1846-1916). Martha and Matthew made their home in Abbeville, where Matthew McDonald was an attorney² and Clerk of Court.
