Miss Ann R. Jackson - eldest daughter of Thomas and Eliza Jackson - was born March 5th 1821, and calmly passed away at 9 o'clock P.M., February 27th 1884, in the 63 year of her age.
She was born in Abbeville county, South Carolina, and when about 17 years of age was deprived of the love and affection of a fond and gentle mother. Whereupon she at once willingly assumed the routine of household duties together with the great responsibility of traininig and raising a large family of sisters and brothers, seven in number. And this she did with great credit to herself and family, and in the discharge of these responsible duties she at all times governed with loved, gentleness, and even maternal affection, and God in his goodness permitted her to live to see them all raised up to manhood and womanhood and thanks to her, all and each of them have evidenced in their lives the benefits of her counsel and training.
It can be truly said of her that she lived a life of self-sacrifice, at all times denying and even forgetting herself for the comfort and happiness of those around her. Her ____ affection, love, devotion, and care for her aged father, even to the time of her death is worthy of especial notice, and also of our admiration and especially so, when we look back to her young and happy days when she, unlike many others, denied herself all the gaieties and pleasure common toyouth, for the care of her aged - this indeed, was the sole object of her life for forty-five long years.
She joined the Methodist church and was converted in her early life. Afterwards prompted by the same spirit of self-denial and devotion, she joined the Episcopal church to be with her father - in this church she lived a consistent member the balance of her life - and although for many years deprived of the privilage of attending public worship, she did not forget her Master's will, she knew her duty and endeavored to do it.
She was a constant reader of her Bible and delighted in its precious truths, she was dilligent in business, fervent in spirit, at all times trying to serve her Master. She was generous, and kind, always ready and willing to help those in need. She has now finished the work her Master gave her to do and we trust and believe she sweetly sleeps in Jesus.
Her funeral services were conducted in Trinity church in Abbeville and her remains interred in Upper Long Cane Cemetery where she sleeps with friends and relatives gone before.
