Nell "Marie" McHargue, 82, Edinburgh, IN, went to meet the Lord on May 20, 2016, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, IN. A memorial service celebrating Marie's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Archie, MO, with inurnment to follow at Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, MO. Marie was born in Leonard, TX on May 5, 1934, to Otis and Winnie (Gibson) Bennett, the 5th of their 10 children. She graduated from Savoy High School in Savoy, TX in 1952 and attended technical school in Dallas where she earned her Secretarial Certification and then enjoyed many years of administrative work in various civil service positions utilizing her secretarial skills. She had her three children with her first husband, Kenneth W. Beckham. Kenneth made a career of his military life in the USAF and they travelled extensively, living in various parts of Texas for many years including Waco, Austin, Denison and San Antonio and also spent assignments in Florida, Japan and the Panama Canal Zone. Although moving was difficult at times, Marie always enjoyed living in and learning about each of their new homes and locales. During her 31-year marriage to her late husband, Bill, until his passing in 2009, they enjoyed gardening, planting peonies, canning their fruits of labor from their orchard, and helping care for their farm, which was Bill's family homestead. "Marie's Bee's" honey was a favorite among the locals at her "honor system" stand in front of their home. Marie was active in many women's organizations in Archie, MO including Beta Sigma Phi and TOPS where she enjoyed the love and support of her Sorority sisters and her many friends. She had also been a member of the First Baptist Church in Archie, MO. Traveling remained something she loved to do. She and Bill would spend an entire month of each year vacationing in such places around the world including China, Russia, Peru, India, Australia, New Zealand, etc., and her favorite destination, Hawaii, where they spent the last 7 years visiting the same resort and becoming friends with other couples who would do the same. Marie moved to Edinburgh, IN in 2010 to be near her daughters and grandchildren. She loved having big Thanksgiving & Christmas & other holiday dinners with her family, barbecuing on her back porch, swimming, reading and sunbathing by her pool, and tending to her garden. She continued to travel to Whitewright, TX every year for the annual Bennett family reunions. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Col. William (Bill) McHargue, USAF (Ret.) son Walter (Tony) Beckham, and sisters Marcie Bridges, Frances Bullard, Emaline Holmes, and Dene Haston. Marie is survived by daughters Rebecca (Becky) Beckham of Edinburgh, IN, Beverly Beckham Autry and husband Bryan of Edinburgh, IN, stepson Col. William R. McHargue, USAF (Ret.) and wife Jan, and step granddaughters Caitlin and Kelly of Waynesboro, PA, step grandson Msgt. William R. McHargue, Jr. USAF (Ret.) and wife Iris, and step grandchildren Kylie and Liam of Caddo Mills, TX, stepson Timothy R. McHargue PHD and wife Joni, and step grandson David of San Ramon, CA. She is also survived by grandchildren Katrina Alvarado and great granddaughter Kaylin Hodson of Franklin IN, TSGT Katie Bowling of Mendenhall AFB England, Johnny Bowling of Columbus, IN, Jaunna (Lee) Gassett and great-granddaughter Ruth Ann of Fort Worth, TX, and Matthew Beckham of Conway, AR. Surviving siblings include brothers James Bennett of Sherman, TX and Wilbert Bennett of Bonham, TX and sisters Becky Youngblood of Irving, TX, Linda Malone of Whitewright, TX and Brenda Joyce Turner of Richardson, TX.
