Son of Samuel and Agnes Boaz.
Company A, 9th Texas Cavalry Regiment C.S.A., wounded at the Battle of Davis Mill, according to records of Robert E. Lee Confederate Veterans Camp #158. He escaped prison camp at LaGrange, TN, and returned to his company after some difficulty; he became a scout for the remaining years of the war, returning to Texas from Mississippi, only after earning enough money to do so. At war's end he was penniless, in rags, with a stiff arm.
After the war he lost his left arm in farm machine accident. Despite this and his wounded right arm, he became a leading landowner in Birdville, with investments in a mill, a cotton gin, and the American National Bank.
