Son of Johann Heinrich and Maria Christina (Schlippes) Steves.

Ed was 19 years old when he, his father Heinrich and other family members left Germany and sailed on the Neptune to Galveston, Texas, moving 1st to Indianola then to New Braunfels. The family moved to San Antonio in the spring of 1866.

Ed married Johanne Caroline Wilhelmine Kloepper in New Braunfels, Texas on 26 December 1857.

Owned a Lumberyard and was involved in Real Estate. He was an Alderman, Fair Association Trustee, Director of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway and the Board of Trade, and Chief Volunteer of Volunteer Fire Company No. 2.

The Steves Homestead at 509 King William Street in San Antonio, Texas, was completed in 1877. It was donated by Edward's granddaughter and his son...... daughter, donated the home to and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
