Son of Heinrich and Christina (Schlippes) Steves.

From Germany he sailed on the Neptune to Galveston, Texas, moving 1st to Indianola then to New Braunfels.

Husband of Johanna Kloepper

Owned a Lumberyard and was involved in Real Estate. He was an Alderman, Fair Association Trustee, Director of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway and the Board of Trade, and Chief Volunteer of Volunteer Fire Company No. 2.

The Steves Homestead on King William Street was completed in 1877 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
