NORHAGEN, Dorothy Geraldine – Age 72 of Glide passed away at her home on Sunday, May 25, 1997 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 25, 1924 in Strathcona, Minnesota to Edward and Katherine (Keller) Vanous. She married Oren Nordhagen on June 20, 1945 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Dorothy had many interests especially her garden and canning. She was well know for “the best pickles on the river”. She was a long-time Auxiliary member of the V.F.W. Post #4316, a Red Cross Volunteer and an accomplished bowler. Dorothy was an avid sports fan and attended countless activities of her children and grandchildren for many, many years. She loved casino gambling, traveling, baking bread and talking with friends on the phone. Her love of life and people was felt by all who came in contact with her. Dorothy devoted herself to caring for others and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She had lived in the Glide area since 1964 coming here from Granada Hills, California. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Oren Nordhagen of Glide; six children, twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her sons and their families are Eugene Nordhagen and his son, Evin of Idleyld Park, Oregon, Wayne Nordhagen, his wife Carrie and daughters Jennie Anna and Jessica of Valencia, California, Calvin Nordhagen, his fiance, Vicki Burrows and his daughters Kellie and Carrie of Valencia, California, Leland Nordhagen, his wife Cheryl and their children, Monique and Ryan of Salem, Oregon; her daughters and their families are; Janice and Russell Stone of Glide, Oregon and their son David Stone and his wife Mary of Roseburg and their daughter Cari (Stone) Spicer and her husband Scott and daughter, Lindsay of Laguna Niguel, California and daughters, Jodie Mizikowski of North Bend, Oregon and Paula Mizikowski of Beaverton, Oregon; sisters; Marcella Schyvincht of Greenbush, Minnesota, Kathleen Weflen of Williston, North Dakota and Katherine Nelson of Butte, Montana; one brother Edward Vanous and his wife Liz of Pembina, North Dakota; numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Joe, Rudy, Fred and Albert. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 1997 at 2 p.m. in the Long & Shukle Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in the Wimberly Cemetery in Glide. Pastor Mike Miller will officiate. Those who wish may pay their respects from 6 until 8 p.m. this evening at the Long & Shukle Memorial Chapel. At the family's request contributions may be made in lieu of flowers in Mrs. Nordhagen's memory to either: Mercy Hospice, 2700 Stewart Parkway, Roseburg, OR 97470 or the American Cancer Society, P.O.
