Last Rites for Mr. J.F. Easter Held Saturday

Funeral services were conducted at the Dimmitt Baptist Church Saturday afternoon for Mr. J.F. Easter, who died at the family home in Dimmitt Friday at 4:20 p.m. Last rites were conducted by Rev. M.J. Lee, pastor. Interment was made in the Dimmitt cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Ozro Stephens, Barber Eubanks, Peck Wyer, Earl Lust, E.C. Caudle, and Edgar Ramey.

Mr. Easter, who came to Castro county in 1905, was one of the oldest settlers in this area and had been engaged for many years as a susveyor [sic], doing most of the survey work in the Dimmitt town section. He had been in ill health for the past several years and had been critically ill for the past several months. He is survived by his wife, a son, John Frankln [sic] Easter, Jr., of Waco, a daughter, Miss Kathryn Easter of Dimmitt, one grand daughter, Mary Lynn Easter, a brother and sister, Mr. W.S. Easter and Mrs. Joe Stagner of Hereford, and a host of nephews and nieces.

John Franklin Easter was born February 13, 1877 at Itasca, Texas, died October 24, 1947, at the age of 70 years and 8 months. He was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Gandy on July 8, 1918, two children were born to this union, both of whom survive.

John Franklin Easter was born February 13, 1877 in Itasca, Hill County, Texas, to William Franklin Easter and Prudence Pryor Major. John stood 5ft. 9 1/2 in. tall, had gray eyes, dark hair and a fair complexion. He was married to Catherine Grandy on July 8, 1918, in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas. They had two children, Mary Katherine and John Franklin. Jr. John was a farmer in Dimmitt, Castro County. He enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a LOYALTY RANGER on July 5, 1918 thru February 1919. He also served in Co. A, 1st Texas Infantry in the Spanish American War. John Franklin Easter died October 24, 1947 in Dimmitt, Catro County, Texas. I did not find his place of burial.
