Burnell Kenum Waldrep

DECATUR — Funeral for Burnell Kenum Waldrep, 84, will be held Friday, May 20th at 2 p.m. at Enon Baptist Church in Danville with the Rev. Tim Keenum, Rev. Steve Ledbetter and Rev. Wayne Penn officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Mrs. Waldrep, who died Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born July 27, 1931, in Lawrence County to Charlie Kenum and Julia Mag Bynum Kenum. She graduated from Speake High School in 1949, married Linnes Waldrep on Nov. 6, 1954, and was happily married until his death in 2007.

She retired from the Lurleen B. Wallace Developmental Center. Previously, she was employed by South Central Bell and in the lunchroom at West Morgan School.

Mrs. Waldrep was a member of Enon Baptist Church over 70 years. She devoted her life to working with babies and preschoolers in Sunday school for 51 years where she was affectionately called ‘Miss Bernie.’

She is survived by her son, Rev. Phil Waldrep and his wife, Debbie of Decatur; two granddaughters, Maegan Schwindling and her husband, T.C. of Decatur, and Melodi Waldrep of Atlanta, Georgia and her fiancé, Parker Webb; and two great-granddaughters, Emory and Zoe Schwindling of Decatur.

Mrs. Waldrep was preceded in death by her sisters, Estell Kenum, Leola McCaghren, Maxwell Ledlow, Sallie Ret Jones, Sue Bert Kenum and Betty McCaghren; and by her brothers, Charlie (Bud) Keenum, William (Clint) Keenum, Arthur (Mojo) Keenum and Jimmy Keenum.

Pallbearers will be Dillard Jones, Ronnie Jones, Gary Ledlow, Charles McCaghren, Howell McCaghren, Mark McCaghren, Greg Keenum, Larry Keenum and Roger Keenum.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be given to Enon Baptist Church Building Fund, 3293 County Road 209, Danville, AL 35619, or to the Scholarship Fund, Northeastern Baptist College, P.O. Box 4600, Bennington, VT 05201.
