Joe F. Jennings, 90, passed away on June 11, 2022. Joe was a lifelong farmer and resident of Randolph County. Joe was born in a farmhouse in the Lynn area on March 29, 1932, during the Great Depression to William and Ethel Jennings. He was the youngest of five children (sic). Both brothers and both sisters have died.

Joe spent his childhood living with his sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Gerald Sharp outside of Huntsville, and he worked on the farm alongside Gerald for many years. Ruth and Gerald had one son, Niles, who was like a brother to Joe. Niles and his wife Linda currently live in Benton, IL. Joe graduated from Huntsville School. He loved to tell stories about his years playing basketball on the junior varsity and varsity teams.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Joanna Coleman whom he married in 2001. In 1959 Joe married Joan Williams of Winchester. They had two children Donna Jennings (married to Clifford Crawford) currently of Plainfield, and David Jennings (married to Lisa Owens) currently residing in Winchester. Joan passed away following a prolonged illness in 1984. Joe was a loving grandfather to four grandchildren: Ryan Crawford, Amanda Crawford, Ashley Jennings, and Alex Jennings.

Joe was well known in the community as a school bus driver. He drove a school bus for the Union School Corporation for fifty-three consecutive years, the state longevity record. He was recognized by the state for this accomplishment, and was proud that he never had an accident, or a child hurt on his bus. Many students remembered him fondly as a kind man who handed out candy to his riders every Christmas.

In 2003, Joe received the State Master Farmer Award for Soil and Water Conservation. Joe began practicing no-till farming in 1990 along with other conservation practices such as grass water ways and maintenance of wooded areas as part of a classified forest program. In 2001, he received the Master Farmer award for Soil and Water Conservation in Randolph County.

Joe loved working with farm machinery, and he taught a 4-H Tractor Maintenance course for many years. He enjoyed participating in local tractor pulls and won too many trophies to count. Joe was able to participate in tractor pulls through the summer of 2021 at the age of 89. He was an active member of the Randolph County Antique Club and enjoyed displaying his antique tractors in their annual show. Joe and his family were members of the Huntsville United Methodist Church before it closed. In recent years he attended the Buena Vista Community Church and served on the church board. He also served on the Buena Vista Cemetery board. Joe was deeply loved by his family and community members. Visitation will be held at the Buena Vista Community Church on Friday evening from five to seven with a service and burial immediately following at the Buena Vista Cemetery behind the church. The address of the church and cemetery is 5434 W CR 300S, Farmland, IN 47340.
