"Shadrach Scofield, Samuel Waterbury, and David Waterbury (son of Samuel) came from Saratoga county, New York, and in 1810 made the first settlement in the southern part of the township of Stockton. Samuel Waterbury had been a revolutionary soldier; Shadrach Socfield afterward served at Buffalo, in the war of 1812. Shadrach Scofield owned a considerable amount of property, and conducted general mercantile business, at what is now designated as Denton Corners. He married Betsey, daughter of Samuel and Rachel (Scofield) Waterbury; she was, on her mother's side, a distant relative. He married (second) Mrs. Dalrimple, a widow with one child; they afterward removed to a place near Janesville, Wisconsin, where he died."
