FLORENCE -- Jerry Wallace Bryant, 52, died Sept. 23, 2000, at his home following a brief illness.

A native of Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Melvin W. and Nettie Louise Orr Bryant. He was a graduate of the S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind and was a member of the National Federation of the Blind and of Calvary Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Palmetto Council of the Boy Scouts of America, a member, treasurer and past president of the Cedar Springs Alumni Association and was a former member of the Lions Club and the masons. He was a former employee of the Spartanburg County Courthouse, the I-95 Rest Area and Fleet Funding of Florence.

Survivors include two brothers, Ted Bryant of Florence and Melvin Bryant Jr. of Clinton; five sisters, Geneva Smith of Landrum, Mary McKelvey of Boiling Springs, Carolyn Walker of Enoree, Nancy Gibson of Florence and Gloria Bryant of Spartanburg; and one stepdaughter, Crystal Parr Powell of Gauiter, Miss.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 tonight at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the residence of Ted Bryant, 3220 Hoffmeyer Road, Lot 33, Florence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Calvary Baptist Church in Florence. Burial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in Wood Memorial Park.
