Simon Bennett, 78, Florman Hotel, a former professional baseball player, died Monday in a Duluth hospital.

He was born in Manchester, England, and was a Duluth resident for the past 75 years. In 1902 he took his first baseball job with the St. Cloud semi-pro team and the following season he played for the Big Duluth semi-pro club.

In 1904, he played in the outfield of the Duluth White Sox and was a member of the team the following season when it won its second straight pennant.
