She was born on Aug. 26, 1949, in De-Funiak Springs, Fla., to Fate and Blondell Neese Prater. Mrs. Wood lived most of her life in Walton County. She was Baptist by faith and a member of First Baptist Church of Liberty. She worked in the Propane Gas Industry for 35 years, she was presently employed by Frank and Alisa Wilks of Chancellor, Ala. She enjoyed working in the garden and growing flowers. She also enjoyed cooking meals for family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Mrs. Wood was predeceased by her father and mother; one grandson, Jeremy Wood; one sister, Mavis Llewellyn; and six brothers, Alvin Prater, Cecil Prater, Pete Prater, Lewis Prater, Roy Prater and Waldo Prater.
Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband, James Wood of Gaskin; four sons, Jimmy Wood and wife Christina Wood of Phenix City, Ala., Greg Wood and wife Pam of Freeport, Fla., Jerry Wood and wife Robin of Opelika, Ala., and Gary Wood and wife Ann of Opelika; four brothers, L.S. Prater of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Clarence Prater and wife Laura of Milton, Fla., Toby Prater and wife Karen of Glendale, and Thomas Lamar Prater and wife Sherry of DeFuniak Springs; five sisters, Lillian Branch of Fort Meade, Fla., Shirley Jordan and husband Willard of Tampa, Fla., Dorothy Glass Palmer of DeFuniak Springs, Dianne Anderson and husband Hershel of Asheville, N.C., and Brenda Hall and husband Rick of DeFuniak Springs; seven grandchildren, Madison, Abbey, Zackary, Allison, Hannah Grace, Karli and Maggie. She is also survived by her dog, "Peanut."
A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Park Ave., DeFuniak Springs.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Glen Spence and Joel Glenn officiating.
Floral arrangements are being accepted.
Burial will follow in Limestone Cemetery.
