TUTTLE: Koonce, Cecil Edwin, 85, died Monday. Services 1:30pm Thursday, First Assembly of God. (Sevier, Tuttle).

Funeral service for Cecil Edwin Koonce, 85, of Tuttle, Oklahoma, were held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 18, 2010, at the First Assembly of God Church in Tuttle.

Cecil Edwin Koonce was born March 12, 1925, in Center Point, Arkansas, to Guy Leonard Koonce and Edith Mae (Melton) Koonce. He and his family moved to Oklahoma soon after and settled in the Tuttle area. He attended Tuttle High School (class of 1943). He was introduced by friends to the love of his life, Wanda Genice Hoggard, in 1944 and they were engaged before he left to serve in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He was a proud and highly decorated war veteran. He joined his unit, the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Division, in Luneville, France. They marched and battled the Germans across France, Belgium, Germany, and Czechoslovakia.

Cecil and Genice were married on August 10, 1946, in Cave City, Arkansas, and established their home in Tuttle. They were blessed with three daughters, Judy, Kathy, and Sheila. He was a steady and loving father teaching us many skills, including driving, with patience and good humor. His integrity, kindness, and steadfastness was a wonderful example to his three sons-in-law, Joe Green, Jerry Drewery, and Mike Scott. His grandchildren and their spouses, Cherie and Carlos, Chad and Kristal, Dustin and Amy, Brandon, Colby, and great-grandchildren, Reece, Lucia, Aly, and Caden were the light of his life and they adored him. He loved children and through the years was a surrogate father and grandfather to countless others.

Cecil retired from Boardman Steel Company (1946-1986) where he was a welder, then was the supply and equipment shop supervisor. With his engineering talents he could fix anything and kept their power tools in excellent working order.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Bobby Van Koonce and Calvin Eugene Koonce, and son-in-law Joseph Anthony Green.
