Murty arrived in NSW onboard the convict ship, Atlas1 on 6 July 1802, having departed Ireland on 28 Nov 1801. He was originally sentenced to death but later his sentence was commuted to a life term with transportation.

Sacred to the memory of Mary Aherne who departed this life Jan 25th 1838 aged 44 years and Murty Aherne who departed this life Aug 27th 1852 aged 83 years. Also William Aherne who departed this life July 2nd 1830 aged 2 yrs & 6 months Elizabeth Aherne who departed this life April 18th 1838 aged 7 months. May they rest in peace, Amen.
