Sarah Martha Brownlee was the daughter of Hamilton Brownlee and his wife Letitia McDowell. She married Samuel Leaman Brownlee on 14 December 1837 in Warren County, Illinois. Samuel died in Illinois on 16 October 1846, the father of four children; Leaman McDowell, Oliver French, Samantha Jane, and Agnes M. Brownlee.
On 19 July 1848, Sarah Martha Brownlee married for the second time to William Teas Patterson. Together, they were the parents of 6 children, some of whom died as infants. Known children were Joseph Hamilton, David Brownlee, Mary Marie, and Letitia Eleanor Patterson.
Both Sarah and her second husband died in Franklin County, Kansas during 1892. Also buried here is Sarah's daughter of her first marriage, Samantha Jane Brownlee, wife of James Lee Henderson.
