Vermont State Treasurer. His family moved to Montpelier in 1902, and he graduated from Montpelier High School in 1917. He enlisted in the Army for World War I, and attained the rank of sergeant while undergoing quartermaster training at Camp Jackson, South Carolina. He was undergoing officer training at Camp Gordon, Georgia when the war ended in November 1918, and he was discharged shortly afterwards. He began a career with the Montpelier and Wells River Railroad and became its Cashier. In 1924 he began to work in the state treasurer's office. He became Assistant State Treasurer in 1926, and Deputy State Treasurer in 1931. In 1942 he was elected State Treasurer as a Republican, and he served from 1943 to 1949. He resigned in January 1949 to become Treasurer and Business Manager of the University of Vermont, where he worked until retiring in 1959.
