Henry O. Polster, age 90, of Kiel died peacefully at home on Sunday morning, May 8, 2016.

Henry was born on March 3, 1926 in Town of Russell, son of the late Louis and Catherine "Katie" (Schuler) Polster. He graduated from Stockbridge High School.

Henry served his Country by joining the Army. He served in the South Pacific Theater in Guam, Saipan, and the Mariana Islands in WWII. While serving, he received many medals including Good Conduct, Asiatic and medal for service on Saipan to name a few. Henry received a Letter of Commendation for the part he played in the Rescue Mission of the 14th Regiment Combat Team. He received his honorable discharge in 1949 and returned home.

After leaving service Henry was employed by Kohler Company for 39 ½ years. He started as a production worker and after graduating from the plant management course, served as a foreman in the brass polishing department. He was a proud member of the Kohler Quarter Century Club. Upon retirement, he took on a part time job doing construction, and later as a seasonal employee for Harold's Landscaping.

On April 28, 1951, he married the former Joyce Hildebrandt at Evangelical Reformed Church, Kiel. They were members of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel. Henry and Joyce have resided in Kiel where they raised their 2 children. They recently celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary at Schwartz's Supper Club. During their marriage, Henry and Joyce loved to go to polka dances, out to dinner, and for rides in the country. He especially enjoyed his annual Florida vacations with his family.

Henry was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 6707 of Kiel. In 2011 Henry had the honor of traveling to Washington DC on the Honor Flight out of Appleton, WI. He enjoyed visiting the various sites but most of all the WWII Memorial.

Henry enjoyed woodworking, listening to Polka Music, assembling jigsaw puzzles, working crossword puzzles, fishing, and loved flowers and gardening. He also enjoyed helping out at the Vogue Beauty Shop. Henry looked forward to his annual deer hunting gathering in the northern woods of Wisconsin. He was a member of the Kiel Bowling league for many years winning individual and team trophies and enjoyed the camaraderie of his team members. Henry enjoyed watching the Badgers, Packers and Brewers.

Survivors include his wife Joyce; daughter, Sheri Polster (Christopher) Chappell, Fort Myers, FL; son, Barry of Kiel; three grandsons Michael and Zachary Chappell of Tallahassee, FL and Marcus Polster of Kiel. He is survived by one brother Clarence (Barb) Polster of Sheboygan Falls, and one sister Kathleen Otto of Kiel; sisters-in–law, Serena Polster of New Holstein, Janet Polster of Howards Grove, Loanne Polster of Cleveland, Joann Hildebrandt of New Holstein, and brother-in law Earl (Bev) Hildebrandt, Valders and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws Hugo and Edna Hildebrandt; 2 sisters Adeline (Walter) Wagner and Marian (Clarence) Wagner; 6 brothers Allan (Yvonne) Polster, DeLyle Polster, Louis Polster, James Polster, Gordon Polster, and infant brother Paul; 2 brothers-in-law Leon Hildebrandt, Eugene Hildebrandt; 1 sister-in-law Judith Polster; and 2 nephews.

Family and friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th Street, Kiel, WI on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:00. Services will be held immediately following the visitation. Rev. Roger Clapp, Pastor will officiate. Interment and Military rites will take place at the Kiel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Henry's name to be given to other WWII Honor Flight applicants to visit our Nation's Capital.
