Gertrude Blackford, 94, of Armstrong went to be with the Lord on May 8, 2016 at her home.

She was born on March 13, 1922 in Potomac, IL, the daughter of John P. and Ida (Erickson) Scott. She married Keith Blackford on December 13, 1941 in Hannibal, MO and he preceded her in death in 1996.

Gertrude will be deeply missed by her five children; son, Stephen A. Blackford III of West Lafayette, IN and his children; Stephen A. (Lisa) Blackford IV, Michelle (Norbert) Bomm; son, Jeffrey (Judy) Blackford of Potomac and his children; Angela (Roger) Bensyl, Jonathan (Rebecca) Blackford, Andrew (Carrie) Blackford; daughter, Kathleen (John) Kuntz of Potomac, IL and her children; Scott Spear, Katrina (Jim) Hodous, Tricia (Bill) Eustice, Travis (Kristi) Kuntz; daughter, Lynn (Clark) Simpson of Middletown, IN and her children; Luke (Amanda) Simpson, Melinda Cruse, Nathan (Lauren) Simpson; son, Brian (Brenda) Blackford of Armstrong, IL and his children; Joshua (Amber) Blackford, Lindsey (Schuyler) Boyden, Ryan (Lauren) Blackford, Seth (Kelsie) Blackford; and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sisters, Violet Scott Brown, Marie Clementz; two brothers, Kenneth L. Keen, Edward M. Keen; son-in-law, Michael Spear and daughter-in-law, Judith Blackford.

Gertrude was a farm wife who was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of Armstrong Methodist Church.
She and Keith participated in the Lay Witness Program through the United Methodist Church. She loved music and being a vocal soloist, sang at many events. She enjoyed gardening and her many flower beds, along with creatively crafting greeting cards for her family and friends.

A celebration of Gertrude’s life will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Connexion Church in Danville with Pastor Curt Sovine officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from 4-8 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, IL. She will be laid to rest at Partlow Cemetery in Armstrong. Memorials can be made to the Women’s Care Clinic, 200 West Williams Street, Danville, IL 61832; Hooves of Hope 7757 US Route 136, Potomac, IL 61865; or Living Alternatives, 205 East Wilbur Avenue, Champaign, IL 61822.
