Stanley Joseph Cook, PhD was born to Lillie Feeland and William Joseph Cook.

He received his M.A. and PhD in Linguistics at the University of Utah in 1969. He held a number of distinguished jobs that involved teaching for 12 years. He was also a author of a number of publications including "The Scope of Grammar: A Study of Modern English," (1980), "Man Unwept: Visions from the Inner Eye," (1974) and "Language and Human Behavior," (1973). He also wrote numerous articles and papers for professional journals, including "Examples of Slang Used by Male Juvenile Chicanos in San Bernardino," 1970 and "Learning through Discussion in the Classroom: A Study of Language, Behavior and Characteristics of Small Groups," 1974. His professional accomplishments were listed in the "International Who's Who in Education" of 1981.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Violet Skimland, Shirley Mansoor, Faye Hogenson and Fern Naiyer; his first wife, Janet Terry Cook (whom he divorced in 1988); one son lost to miscarriage, Jason Foster; and one niece, Merry Carey.

He is survived by his beloved second wife of 26 1/2 years (whom he married in 1989) who was his student at one time, 1 sibling, 2 children. 10 grandchildren, 1 one great-grandchild, 1 step child and two step grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at Our Lady of Assumption parish in Claremont on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m., followed immediately by internment at Rose Hills in Whittier.
