Lloyd Eugene “Gene” Freeman, age 85, of Spencer, passed away at his residence on Saturday, April 30, 2016. He was born in Haggerstown, Indiana on May 18, 1930, the son of Frank and Myrle Freeman.
Gene had worked in sanitation for the Owen County Landfill and Freeman’s Trash Service, and was formerly employed by Bridgeport Brass and Maplehurst Dairy.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Army 73rd Transportation Truck Company from 1953-1954.
Survivors include his children, Kathy Freeman Corlette (Danny), of Springville, Kenny Freeman of Spencer, Karee Freeman of Spencer, and Karla Ervin of Bloomington; grandchildren, Mickey Ervin, Jamie Ervin, Jeremiah Freeman, Isaac Freeman, Luke Freeman, Katie Poff, Sabrina Poff, and Megan Poff; great-grandchildren, Jase Nichols and Karson Leathers; sister, Marie Goss; and brothers, Floyd Freeman and Gerald Freeman.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Barbara J. Freeman.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, May 22, from 1-3 p.m. at the In God’s Arms (IGA) building in Spencer. Burial will follow in Hudson Hill Cemetery.
