Helen E. Knisley, 95, of Anderson, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Community Hospital of Anderson.
She was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Anderson, to the late Price and Nellie (Marlett) Smith. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1938.
She married John Austin Knisley on June 8, 1941, who preceded her in death on April 22, 1987.
Helen retired from Anderson Community Schools in 1988, after 27 years of service as registrar. She was an active member of East Lynn Christian Church, where she served in many capacities including Elder, Diaconate, Christian Women's Fellowship. She also volunteered with the church food pantry and at Community Hospital for 24 years, and was a member of the Retired School Secretary Association.
Her greatest love was her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Helen enjoyed baking, sewing, knitting and word puzzles.
She is survived by her children, David (Linda) Knisley of Desoto, Mo., and Enola (Frank) Proctor of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, John Knisley, Leanne Martin, Anne Proctor and Bradley Proctor; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Geneva (Gene) Herkless; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
She also was preceded in death by her sister, Betty (Smith) Cook.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at East Lynn Christian Church with Pastor V.J. Stover officiating. Burial will follow in East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to East Lynn Christian Church.
