Charles "Chuck" Hawley, 67, of East Jordan died on Monday, May 2, 2016, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
He was born on August 22, 1948, in Charlevoix, the son of Hugh and Marjorie May (Mayville) Hawley.
Chuck graduated from East Jordan High School in 1967. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
On June 30, 2012, he married Cathy Massingill Stark.
Chuck owned and operated Westside Automotive for many years.
He loved anything that goes fast. He enjoyed drag racing, tinkering and going fishing with Jacob.
Chuck was very proud to be a veteran and was very passionate for all aspects of the military. He was both a member of the Order of the Purple Heart and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Stark of East Jordan; two sons, Brent (Kristi) Joseph Hawley of Flat Rock and Zach (Kori Danforth) Stark of East Jordan; one daughter, Jennifer (Joel) Oswald of Boyne City; four grandchildren, Jacob Coats, Kaitlyn Hawley, Khyler Stark and Kasen Stark; one sister, Lori (Dan) Antaya of East Jordan; two brothers, Dennis (Tina) Hawley of Midland and Darren Hawley of Lake Ann. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie May Hawley on July 12, 2014, his father, Hugh Hawley on January 20, 2003 and two nephews, Dillon Christopher Antaya in 2016 and Luke Yonkee in January 2008.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016, at 1:00 P.M. at the Lighthouse Missionary Church, 7824 Rogers Road, East Jordan, MI. Sally Martin will officiate with a military service following.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the church. Memorials may be given to Cardiac Rehab Program at Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital, 14700 Lake Shore Drive, Charlevoix MI, 49720. Arrangements by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., in East Jordan, MI 49727.
