Mrs. Dorthy Jean (Rose) Griggs, age 84 of Calvert City, KY passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the home of her son in Benton, KY.
Born Saturday, July 4, 1931 in Hardin, KY, she was the daughter of the late James Edward Rose and the late Lois (Thweatt) Rose. She was the wife of 54 years to the late Archie Clifton Griggs. She was a Homemaker and was a retired greeter at the Walmart store in Benton, Ky. She was a member of Abundant Life Worship Center in Calvert City.
Surviving are her daughter, Jane Walsh husband Tom of Paducah, KY, sons, Clifton E. Griggs, wife Brenda of Calvert City, KY, Joe Gene Griggs, wife Jan of Camden, TN, James Robert Griggs of Benton, KY, John L. Griggs, wife Carla of Benton, KY and Billy Wayne Griggs of Calvert City, KY, sister, Betty Duncan of Benton, KY; 19 grandchildren; 34 great -grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, by her son, Archie Thomas "Tommy" Griggs, sisters, Adlene Bohannon, Novalee Bohannon, Geneva Mathis and Martha McKenty.
Funeral service will held Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY. Rev. Charlie Canup and Rev. Lynn McWherter officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Salyer Creek Cemetery, Benton, KY.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th, Benton, KY.
