US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Pvt Miller enlisted into the US Army on August 4, 1870, in Cincinnati, OH. He was described as 5'6", hazel eyes, brown hair with a dark complexion. His civilian occupation was laborer. On November 2, 1870, Miller was assigned to Company F, 2nd US Cavalry Regiment at Ft Union, NM. At the expiration of his enlistment, Miller was discharged in Garland, CO on August 4, 1874. Miller reenlisted on October 4, 1875, in ST Louis, MO. He was assigned to Company L, 7th US Cavalry Regiment on October 29, 1875 in Ft Totten, Dakota Territory. Company L was commanded by LTC Custer's brother-in-law, 1st LT James Calhoun. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Company L was assigned to Custer's battalion. Miller was killed during the battle. After the battle most of Company L was found on Calhoun Ridge and the area between the ridge and Last Stand Hill. Miller's remains were not identified. It is likely his unidentified remains were buried where they had been found. In 1881, all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on top of Last Stand Hill.
