He enlisted into the US Army on December 24, 1875, in St Louis, MO. He was described as 5'6", brown hair, hazel eyes with a fair complexion. His civilian occupation was tailor. On April 16, 1876, he was assigned to Company C, 7th US Calvary Regiment at Ft Lincoln, Dakota Territory. Company C was commanded by two time Medal of Honor recipient and the brother of LTC George A. Custer, Captain Tom Custer. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Company C was assigned to Custer's battalion. Meir was killed sometime during the fighting. His unidentified remains were likely buried where they had been found. In 1881, all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on top of Last Stand Hill.
