He was the son of Henry and Matilda Ashe Congdon.
He served in the Army in World War I and was injured in action in France. For many years he was employed by the Dolgeville Cemetery Association, retiring in 1953. He was married to Emma Johnson, who died in 1958.
Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Fay Barnes, Dolgeville: two step-daughters, Mrs. Joseph Schuman, East Herkimer, and Mrs. Matthew Koloski, Rochester; nieces and nephews.
