Born of the parents Vincenzo Grattà and Maria Rosanò in the Town of Palermiti, Province of Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy. Husband of Giuseppina Fulciniti, born 14 March 1890, Palermiti, Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy. They married 05 April 1908, Palermiti. Previous to coming to the U.S., Antonio worked in the coffee plantations of Brazil to earn and save money for his family. Immigrated to Massachusetts, arriving at Boston, traveling on an Italian passport and with vaild U.S. entry papers, 04 April 1911, having sailed directly from the port of Naples, Italy on the White Star Line Steamship "Canopic". Upon arrival in Plymouth County, worked for the Hall Estate. Then he and his brother Pasquale, started in the dairy business, with each of them later founding their own independent dairy companies: A. Gratta & Sons Dairy in Hull, and Pasquale Gratta & Sons Dairy in Hingham. Became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1934. Worked with daughter Maria at what is now The Hingham Shipyard, manufacturing muntions for the U.S. WWII effort.

Antonio was the sibling of Teresa Grattà, Giovanna Grattà, Rocco Grattà, Francesco Grattà, Pasquale Grattà, Maria Grattà, Paolo Grattà, Leonardo Grattà, and Giuseppe Grattà; all of the same parents, and all of whom were born in Palermiti.

The father of one son born in 1909 who died as an infant in Palermiti. Also the father of Maria (Mary) Gratta, born 22 October 1911, Palermiti, Italy, James Vincent (Vincenzo) Gratta, born 22 July 1913, Hingham, Massachusetts, Domenic (Domenico) William Gratta, born 09 July 1915, Hingham, Massachusetts, and Jane Roselyn (Generosa) Gratta, born 23 June 1924, Hull Massachusetts.

Antonio died at his residence at 35 Richards Road, Hull, Massachusetts, of Metastatic Carcinoma (cancer); preceding his wife Giuseppina Fulciniti, in death, who died also at their residence located on Richards Road. Her date of death was 03 July 1948.
