Esther "Etta" A. Insall was born in 1856 in Bayou Chicot, St. Landry Parish (now Evangeline), Louisiana.
She was the daughter of Ransom Peake Ferguson and Charlotte Insall Ferguson.
Her paternal grandparents were Daniel Montgomery Ferguson and Esther Owen Peake.
Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Holifield Insall and Marie "Mary" Wholeship.

On 11 August 1875 in Colorado County, Texas, Etta married Norman Woods Insall, the son of Robert Wholeship Insall and Sarah Boyd Woods and great grandson of Zadock Woods, one of Stephen F. Austin's "Old Three Hundred" in Texas.
Esther and Norman were the parents of 4 children: Stella E., Alma Gertrude, Arnold R., and Ira Norman Insall.

Etta died in June 1899 in Williamson County, Texas. She was buried on 13 June 1899 in the Bagdad Cemetery in Leander, Williamson County, Texas - OSE Row 6.30, Old Section East 6.18.
