He was the husband of Elizabeth J. (Evans) Buchanan, whom he married July 31, 1971. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., on June 7, 1942, he was a son of the late Bertrum H. Sr. and Mary R. (Case) Buchanan.
He was a 1960 graduate of Lansdowne-Aldan High School and a graduate of Drexel University with a degree in finance.
Allen was a member of Lincoln Park Community United Methodist Church, where he was an usher and charter member of the Church's endowment fund.
He was employed as a bank investment officer at the Bank of Pennsylvania and later at Meridian Bank until 1992. Allen retired in 2010 after 15 years as an accountant and bookkeeper with Abilities In Motion, Reading.
He is also survived by two daughters, Elizabeth, wife of Paul E. Kirkpatrick Jr., of Glenwood, Maryland, and Katharine C., wife of Jason S. Dianna, of Lower Heidelberg Township. Other survivors include four grandchildren: Megan E. Kirkpatrick, Madeline J. Kirkpatrick, Samuel R. Dianna and Joseph A. Dianna. A sister-in-law, Joan (Leonard) Buchanan, of Radnor, Pa., also survives him.
Allen was predeceased by two siblings, Bertrum H. Buchanan Jr. and Mary Kay Safford.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 5th, at 11:00 a.m. in Arlington Cemetery, 2900 State Road, Drexel Hill, PA. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 7th, at 11:00 a.m. in Lincoln Park Community United Methodist Church, 1 Carlisle Avenue, Reading, PA 19609. A visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Church. Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, is in charge of arrangements.
