Born in New Brunswick to Fredrick and Helen Meyer, Dorothy lived in Avenel for a time before coming to Franklin Township 57 years ago. Mrs. Tompkins worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Somerset County Technical Institute. A member for nearly 50 years of the Somerset Presbyterian Church, she'd served as Deacon and Elder, sang in the choir, and sat on the church's Mission and Music Commissions. Mrs. Tompkins was the former president of the PTA of the Middlebush School, and was an active member of the Franklin Twp. Women's Club. She enjoyed gardening and sewing, and loved to travel with her granddaughter in the Road Scholar (formerly Elderhostel) program.
