David Bevan was a single, 25 year old shearer from Bowden, South Australia when he enlisted in August, 1915. He arrived in France as part of the 23rd Battalion in March, 1916. On 5th August he received a shrapnel wound to the left hand and was evacuated to the 3rd casualty clearing station. He finally rejoined his unit on 27th January, 1917 before being declared missing in action on 12th May, 1917. It wasn't until the 17th December, 1917 that he was declared killed in action. Lest we forget.
