Billy enlisted in the Army Air Corps the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked and served proudly in the Pacific theatre. He flew many missions as crew chief on a C-47 with his lifelong friend Paul Sample of St, Louis.
After the war he was employed by Trans World Airlines until he retired in 1985. During the time with TWA he worked in Addis Abba, Ethiopia for 6 years and in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for 4 years. His retirement allowed him to be involved with organizing and hosting reunions with WW2 veteran groups. He was an active member of the VFW, serving 2 terms as post commander for VFW Post 5806. He was passionate about his role in the military and his love for his country. He often stated that he had lived the american dream.
