Ruth Bell, a long time resident of Clovis, California, an adoring wife and devoted mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord. She was a member of the "greatest generation", born in Dallas, Texas to Ruth E. and John D. Clarke.

Ruth is preceded in death by her loving husband, Eugene Bell; and her son, David Bell.

As a young woman, Ruth attended Hockaday Junior College, a girls finishing school, in Dallas, Texas and helped care for her father who was ill.

Ruth was also civic minded and helped serve at the U.S.O. in Dallas, Texas during WWII.

Ruth met the love of her life, Eugene Bell, "the tallest, most handsome guy on the dance floor", at the U.S.O. After receiving his wings and Commission in Corpus Christi, Texas, Ruth accepted Gene's proposal of marriage. Gene served with the U.S. Navy flying P.B.Y.'s during the war until it ended. After the war ended, Gene returned to Dallas and he and Ruth were married in July 1944. They moved to Whidbey Island, Washington where Gene completed his commision.

They moved to Clovis, California to establish their first home. Gene joined his father in the family owned business, Clovis Lumber Company. Ruth welcomed her daughter Elaine in May 1946. The Lord gave Ruth a "special" child, David, in February 1949. Ruth was totally devoted to her husband and her children's care. She blessed her son David with her special care for 24 years until he passed away in 1973.

Ruth was active in the Clovis Women's Club, serving as President in 1968 to 1969, past president Clover Leaf Garden Club, Jane Cole Circle, United Methodist Women, Wesley Service Guild, Clovis Hospital Guild where she sold the most tickets to their annual lucnheon for many years, Concordia Chapter 320, Order of the Eastern Star, Clovis Prosperity Club of Concordia, Sharon Temple No. 92, Daughter of the Nile - Fresno, the Los Rancheros Guild and Fresno Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC).

Ruth and Gene were part of the original parents to start a parent's co-op for mentally retarded children in the Fresno area and their son David became one of the first children to attend Kelso School in Fresno.

Ruth has also been an active member of the United Memorial Methodist Church in Clovis for 60 years.

Ruth's family wishes to thank Dr. Greg Matsubura at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, St. Agnes Hospice and the many sweet nurses and CNA's at Beverly Hylond for all their love and gentle care that they provided for Ruth.

We would also like to thank Alex Lobkowski for all his patience and generosity and the many special breakfasts, dinners, trips and family outings he enabled Ruth to have with family and friends.

Ruth leaves her daughter, Elaine Bell; two grandchildren, Eric Kuhn and his wife Carol, and Kristen Cole and her husband Eric; and her four great-grandchildren, Angelique Kiuhn, Ethan Cole, and Kaylee and Eric Schoenheide.

Ruth also leaves many life long, devoted friends whom she loved dearly.
