Asley became a member of the Lansing, WV Baptist Church at the age of 13 and later became an active member of Fayetteville, WV Baptist Church. She attended the Lansing School from first grade thought Jr. High and graduated in 1931 from Fayetteville High School. After raising her two sons and daughter, Ashley embarked on a career as a skilled seamstress, and taught sewing for Adult Basic Education in Fayette and Raleigh Counties, WV. She raised two granddaughters during this time. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, traveling, cooking, and making draperies. She was preceded in death by her husband, Verla Orestus Eary.
