Garlan Cox, age 80, died on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 8:45 PM at his residence in LaFayette.

He was born on January 11, 1936 in Knott County, Kentucky to Winfeel and Lura (Gayheart) Cox who preceded him in death. Garlan married Tommie Parker on November 26, 1955 and she survives in LaFayette.

Garlan was head of security at Lima Memorial Hospital for the Allen County Sheriff’s Office. He previously worked at Sheller Globe as a welder for 27 years.

He is also survived by his two sons: Jonathan (Tracy) Cox of LaFayette and Timothy (Christy) Cox of Westminster; a daughter, Kathy (J.R.) Stratton of LaFayette; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Garlan was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Ruth Ryanne Coates; a great grandson; and twelve brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Rev. Terry Brock officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Friends may call 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada and until time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted by the Sagar Masonic Lodge #513 on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 8:00 PM.
