A Memorial Word Service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Jules Catholic Church in Lafayette for Nella Hernandez Richard, age 89, who died at 9:29 AM on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at her Lafayette residence.
Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Survivors include her two daughters, Joan Richard Sovinsky and husband John of Gretna, and Ellen Richard Carroll and husband Dr. Daniel of Lafayette; her sister, Elaine Hernandez Borrell and her husband Weber of Lafayette; her six grandchildren, Michelle S. Gegenheimer, Neal N. Sovinsky, Lauren C. Curry and husband Bill, Daniel J. Carroll Jr. and wife Lacey, Scott G. Carroll and David P. Carroll; her four great grandchildren, Hannah Claire Gegenheimer, William James Curry, Elizabeth Catherine Curry and Camille Grace Curry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hypolite Hernandez and the former Ada Billeaud; three sisters, Grace H. Begnaud, Delta H. Dylla and Wilda H. Gannard; three brothers, Joseph Russell, Paul Steven and Joseph Mitchell Hernandez; two nephews Russell J. Dylla and Weber J. Borrell, Jr.
Nella Hernandez Richard was born on September 20, 1925 in Scott, Louisiana and was a lifelong resident of Lafayette. She was a devout member of St. Jules Catholic Church. Mrs. Richard graduated from Scott High School and Spencer Business College. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Richard was employed with G.S. Jones and John Domingue Income Tax Services and after retirement she prepared tax returns for family and friends. She enjoyed spending time gardening and spending quality time with her family.
