Anne Duffy, 94, of Liverpool passed away Thursday March 3, 2016 in Naples Florida. She was born on July 17, 1921, the daughter of the late Stephen and Sophie (Reis) Filipkowski in a section of Syracuse known as Maciejowa. After graduating from Vocational High School, she was hired at Woolworth's on Salina Street, and was later employed by NYS in the Division of Unemployment retiring in 1986. Stephen's brother and Sophie's sister also married and between the two couples there were 14 children. She was the last surviving Filipkowski of that generation. She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore in 1966. In January she marked the 50th anniversary of his passing. She was also predeceased by her sister Florence Grimm, brothers, Joseph and Irving Filipkowski and her son-in-law Charles A. Diorio. An extremely gifted lady, her talents included sewing, knitting, crocheting and painting. If you were a chosen recipient of one of her creations, you were given a beautiful gift that was truly from her heart!
Anne was an avid sports fan! Of course, her favorite team was the Syracuse Orange Basketball team! She is survived by her daughter, Anne "Nancy" Diorio of Liverpool, her grandsons, Charles (Janna) Diorio of Ridgewood, NJ, Theodore Diorio of Norwich, NY, Jason Diorio of Washington, DC and an adored great-grandson, Charles L. Diorio, her nephews, Thomas (Carol) Grimm, Steve (Cindy) Grimm and a niece Susan (John) Shehadi and their families. Also surviving are special family friends; Frances Parker, MacKenzie (Bob) Nayden, and Pat (Chuck) Normanly. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016 in Christ the King Church, 21 Cherry Tree Circle in Liverpool with A Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Rite of Committal and entombment will follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville.
