Son of Mr. & Mrs. Frank Brach who resided in Stamford, Connecticut.

Alphonse served as a Fireman First Class, U.S.S. Cooper (DD-695), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Fairfield County, Connecticut prior to the war.

Alphonse was declared "Missing In Action" when the Cooper was torpedoed and sunk by the Japanese destroyer Take in what became known as the Battle of Ormoc Bay during the war. The Battle of Ormoc Bay was a series of battles fought from November 11, 1944 through December 21, 1944.

The Cooper lost 191 sailors and 168 were rescued by other ships in the area.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
