Beloved physician, Lester LeVon Mann Jr. born May 10, 1933, succumbed to a multitude of health issues at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota on Friday morning September 11, 2015, aged 82. He greatly enjoyed his career in medicine: first in Family Practice, then Pediatrics, followed by Emergency Medicine and medical missions. His years spent working in Zambia, Africa were the most fulfilling and challenging for him.
He was the most beloved husband of Leota (Lee) Shrock Mann, celebrating 60 years of marriage on August 28, 2015. He was humbly proud of his four children, Karen (Bruce) Harbach, Brent (Kathy, deceased) Mann, Gail (Byron) Shetler, and Janine (Lyle) Hawkinson; and honorary children, Ravi & Esther Sandhyapagu. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were very important to him as well as their interests: Katie (Jeremy) Schulz (Zane and Dexter), Douglas Harbach, Leanne Harbach, Ryan Mann, Andrea Mann, Lavonne Shetler, Jacob Shetler, Anna Shetler, Kenneth Hawkinson (Riley), Sara Hawkinson (Cayden); and honorary grandchildren, Ron and Mighty Sandhyapagu.
He graduated from Jefferson High School in Goshen, Indiana; Goshen College; St. Louis University School of Medicine; receiving his Pediatric residency at University of Wisconsin School of Medicine.
He excelled in basketball in high school and college. In 2002 he was inducted into the Elkhart County Sports Hall of Fame, Indiana for scoring 34 points in a single tournament game in 1951.
His faith guided every aspect of his life. He was a member of the Freeport Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday school for many years. Music - especially vocal music - was another special interest singing with the Monroe Men’s Chorus and the Freeport Choral Society. He served as team physician for Freeport Sr. High basketball and football teams for many years.
He is survived by one brother, Dean Mann. He is proceeded in death by his parents Lester and Leona Mann, stepmother Elsie Mann, and brothers Derald Mann and David Mann.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 15th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Freeport Mennonite Church. There will also be a visitation from 10:00 am to the time of service Wednesday at the church. Family burial will be prior to the memorial service. Memorial service will be on Wednesday, September 16th at 11:00 am at Freeport Mennonite Church, 3416 E. Brick School Rd, Freeport, IL.
