Vernon Harrison Burkholder, 73, of Bridgewater, passed away April 17, 2016. Mr. Burkholder was born Aug. 17, 1942, in Rockingham County and was a son of the late John Samuel and Vernie Magdalene (Knicely) Burkholder.

He was a farmer and carpenter. He was a member of Riverdale Old Order Mennonite Church.

On Jan. 29, 1964, he married the former Betty Ann Martin, who passed away on Jan. 13, 2004.

Surviving are three daughters, Sue Ann Wenger and husband, Michael, and Martha Koogler and husband, Thomas, both of Bridgewater, and Margaret Rhodes and husband, Lamar, of Dayton; siblings, Wilda Rhodes of Dayton, Norma Koogler of Harrisonburg, Anna Burkholder of Dayton, Mildred Knicely of Dayton, Mark Burkholder of Dayton, and Eunice Beery of Dayton; 19 grandchildren, Russell and Steven Wenger, Kenneth and Travis Wenger, Chris Wenger, Virginia Heatwole, Larry, Rebecca, Wendell, Wanita and Lynette Wenger, Annie Wenger, and William, David, Eleanor, Evelyn, Andrew, Sharon and Jonathan Rhodes; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Burkholder was preceded in death by his siblings, Sadie Rodes, Beulah Koogler and Earl Burkholder, and an infant granddaughter.

Bishop Lloyd Wenger and ministers of the church will conduct a funeral service Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. at Riverdale Old Order Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The body will be taken to the home of Thomas and Martha Koogler, 1420 Emmanuel Church Road, Bridgewater, where friends may call at any time on Monday.

McMullen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
