Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. James Church in Le Mars. Reverend Patrick Behm will celebrate Mass with Deacon Paul Gengler assisting. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 5:00 p.m., and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Leonard Maynard Campbell was born November 22, 1922 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Henry and Minnie (Theisen) Campbell. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. He attended school in Le Mars and graduated from Central High School.
He was united in marriage to Laura Oetken on April 3, 1945 in Le Mars. Following their marriage the couple farmed northwest of Le Mars until 1978, at which time they moved to Le Mars. Leonard also worked for the Swift Packing House in Sioux City from 1954 to 1983. Laura passed away October 13, 2006. In May of 2014, Leonard became a resident of Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Leonard was a member of All Saints Parish in Le Mars. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. Leonard cherished the traveling that he and Laura were able to do together. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards. But most of all, he loved the times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his four children: Kenneth (Lois) Campbell of Sioux Falls, SD, Donna (Dan) Utesch of Akron, IA, Bill (Lori) Campbell of Le Mars, IA, and Deb Anthony of Le Mars, IA; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; two sisters: Marlys Harms of Le Mars, IA, and Mary Ann (Joe) Riley of Omaha, NE; his sisters in law: Jenieta Campbell of Le Mars, IA, Mary Campbell of Le Mars, IA, Marlene (Tom) Arens of Le Mars, IA, and Dixie Oetken of Brunsville, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Laura; a great granddaughter, Marley Schults; a son in law, John Anthony; and his siblings, Gladys Bridgeford, Richard Campbell, Henrietta Campbell, Clifford Campbell, and Clarence Campbell.
