Wine Grower, Wife Killed in New Mexico Auto Crash
"Cloverdale - Funeral services will be held in Healds-
Black(sic), longtime viniculturist(sic) and rancher, and
his wife, Mrs Virginia Marsden Black, who were killed in an auto accident Wednesday near Las Cruces, NM.
They were driving to Dallas to spend Christmas with their son, Hollis M. Black, Jr. and his family who until last March lived in Berkeley.
The senior Mr. Black, 72, was a member of a pioneer family in the Cloverdale area. Until about a year ago he operated a small winery, specializing in choice vintages.
Mrs. Black, 74, a member of a prominent San Diego family, was an artist, free-lance writer and musician.
Surviving also are another son, David Black, who operated the ranch in partnership with his father, and seven grandchildren.
The joint services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Fred Young Mortuary in Healdsburg."

"Sad Note: Virginia and Hollis Black who operated Hollis Black Winery in Cloverdale, were killed Dec. 22 in a one-car accident in New Mexico while enroute to Dallas to spend the holidays with their son Hollis Jr. The late Mr. Black portrayed the grandfather in Walt Disney's "Little Dog Lost" which was filmed on the Black's ranch about four years ago."

"LAS CRUCES, Dec 23 -- A traffic accident due to slippery highways took the lives yesterday of a Cloverdale, Calif., couple on Interstate 10, three miles north of the Texas-New Mexico line.
Dead are Hollis Mansfield Black, 72, and his wife, Virginia Black, age unknown.
Police said Black, the driver, attempted to pass another vehicle and went off the road to the right and struck a culvert.
He and his wife were thrown from the car. The man was dead on arrival at Memorial General Hospital, and his wife died a few hours later."
